Bio: Mark Davis received his Ph.D. in Industrial and Organizational Psychology from Virginia Tech. He is currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Management and Program Director of the Health Services Management Program at the University of North Texas. Professor Davis’ teaching and research interests include Operation and Management of Health Services Organizations, Human Resource Management, and Organizational Behavior. His research has appeared in health care, management, and psychology journals including Health Services Research, Medical Care, Journal of Management, Journal of Business Ethics, Organizational Behavior and Human Decision Processes, and the Journal of Applied Psychology.

Bio: Involved for more than 25 years in the field of gerontology with an emphasis on retirement housing, long-term care, and health services management. Has conducted research, published articles, and made numerous presentations in retirement housing and management issues that impact the senior housing industry and long-term care. Primary research interest deals with Continuous Quality Improvement (CQI) and job performance and turnover issues in retirement housing and long-term care facilities. Has also developed and implemented training programs for staff in retirement communities, long-term care facilities and retail sales associates.

Bio: Peter Hilsenrath is a Professor in Health Management and Policy in the School of Public Health at the University of North Texas Health Science Center in Fort Worth. He holds a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Texas at Austin. Professor Hilsenrath was with the Health Management and Policy Program at the University of Iowa from 1989 to 2000 and during that time spent a year, from 1995 to 1996, as Chief Economist at Syfrets Managed Assets in Cape Town. During the 1980s, Peter Hilsenrath held appointments in the Economics Department at the University of the Witwatersrand in Johannesburg and with the Center for Naval Analyses in Alexandria, Virginia. He has interests in technology assessment and health systems. He has published on a variety of topics in management, clinical and social science journals.

Bio: Dr. Kristine Lykens teaches courses in the School of Public Health, Department of Management and Policy including Health Politics and Policy, Program Planning and Evaluation, and Culture, Ethnicity, Access and Health. Her research interests are in the areas of children's health care access and outcomes, racial/ethnic disparities in health, and the Children's Health Insurance Program. Dr. Lykens is currently a member of the American Public Health Association and the Academy for Health Services Research and Health Policy. Locally, she serves on the Program Services Committee of the North Texas Chapter of the March of Dimes Birth Defects Foundation, the Public Affairs Committee of the March of Dimes, and is a member of the Tarrant County CHIP Coalition.

Bio: Douglas A. Mains is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Public Health and Preventive Medicine at the University of North Texas Health Science Center at Fort Worth. He is Track Director for the Health Administration Track and Director of Administrative and Fiscal Affairs for the School of Public Health. While in Austin, Dr. Mains worked as an intern in the Health and Human Services section of the Governor’s Office of Management and Budget. While at UTSPH, he was employed by the Center for Health Policy Studies and collaborated on several projects including: estimating health expenditures for the state of Texas; analyzing Texas Medicaid data; and evaluating a pilot integrated eligibility process for Harris County. He also was employed with the Center for Health Promotion Research and Development at UTSPH where he worked on three meta-analysis research projects in the area of health education and disease prevention. Dr. Mains was Manager for Planning and Evaluation with the City of Dallas Department of Health and Human Services during which time major projects included: principal investigator of the West Dallas Childhood Blood Lead Study funded by a grant from the Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry; team leader for a departmental management system and quality improvement project; leader in the department total quality management process; and the Infant Immunization Initiative. Dr. Mains worked as a management consultant with West Hudson and Co., Inc. where he assisted hospitals in the development of management processes to improve productivity and reduce costs. His research interests include program evaluation, community assessment of health status and health needs, health policy analysis, quality of care in long-term care facilities, and the alignment of information with organizational needs.
