Professor
Steve Cole is a professor of finance in the College of Business Administration at the University of North Texas. Dr. Cole received his Ph.D. from The University of Arkansas and his B.S. and M.B.A. from Southwest Missouri State University. He teaches courses in financial markets and institutions, financial institutions management and capital budgeting. He serves as the finance intern advisor. In addition, Dr. Cole advises the Financial Management Association Student Chapter and assists in co-ordinating the UNT Student Investment Group. His ability in the classroom has been recognized with several teaching awards including the Outstanding Teacher Award from the Council of Business Students, the Honor Professor Award from the Student Association of UNT, and numerous Mortar Board Senior Honor Society Top Prof and apple polishing awards. Dr. Cole is a member of Beta Gamma Sigma, the honor society for collegiate schools of business. He has also been listed in Whos Who.
Dr. Coles research interests cover a wide area, but are linked around a primary focus on fixed income securities. He has approached this at a broad level with studies of the effect of default risk insurance on yields of municipal bonds traded in the secondary market, the efficiency of futures markets for U.S. Treasuries and eurodollars, and the impact of bond rating changes. His research has been published in top academic outlets, including The Journal of Futures Markets and The Journal of Monetary Economics. His work has also appeared in publications such as The Journal of Economics and Finance, The Journal of Business and Economic Perspectives, The Journal of Financial Education, and The Journal of Insurance Issuses. Dr. Cole is also a regular presenter at national and regional meetings including the Financial Management Association and the Southwestern Finance Association. Dr. Cole is a co-author of two award winning papers and is a past-president of the Southwestern Finance Association.
In addition to his teaching and research, Dr. Cole has also enjoyed interacting with a variety of business firms through consulting and development programs. He has worked with such nationally known entities as BancOne Corp. and the American Association of Certified Public Accountants. Also, He has taught in the Credit Union National Association (CUNA) management school for the Southwest CUNA Management Association.
