Mission Statement
SofTech offers research and training programs to corporate researchers, computational scientists and information systems people who want to learn more about emerging technologies and how to apply them in their work. SofTech brings together UIC research expertise and equipment in an interactive, networked, high-performance computing environment - with an emphasis on visualization and advanced applications software research, development, training and services.

Description of research laboratory (if applicable):

1. Electronic Visualization Laboratory - Research in visualizing abstract ideas that lead to better understanding and insight. Visualization has expanded into applied research in engineering, chemistry, medicine, economics, business/finance, urban planning and many other industrial areas. Offers graduate MFA, MS and PhD in Visualization. Set up with more than 80 graphics workstations and personal computers, color cameras and video recording equipment, including IBM RISC System/6000 POWERstation 530 with 3D color graphics adapters and 2.6 gigabytes of side storage each.
2. Biomedical Visualization Lab - Primary focus is on 3D- visualization with manufacturing applications. Small mainframe computer, a suite of PCs and several graphics workstations.
3. Laboratory for Advanced Computing - Focus on research in symbolic and numeric computing, supercomputing, and database computing with an emphasis on prototyping and testing of new algorithms.
4. Office for Advanced Financial Research - Research in mathematical modeling, statistical estimation, computing and financial engineering
