RESEARCH

My current and planned research studies fall into three main streams of research: 1) business intelligence, 2) learning in virtual environments, and 3) decision making theories. My dissertation research falls into the Business Intelligence (BI) area. A consistent picture about how to achieve success with BI has not yet emerged. In my dissertation, I suggest that a lack of fit between the organization’s needs and its BI is one of the reasons for lack of success. I also suggest that a match between the decision environment of the organization and its BI capabilities would result in a more successful BI. My dissertation research draws heavily on findings from the research areas of organizational information processing, decision types and BI literature. Because the academic literature on BI is relatively scarce, one of my objectives is to suggest an underlying theory for measuring BI success. My hope for this stream is to provide a theoretical background for BI success and develop a valid instrument to measure BI success as well as BI fit. In the future, I am planning to connect this stream to BI maturity models.
