TEACHING

Instructing university level classes in the 21st century requires a dynamic, diverse and relevant approach to teaching. I believe it is my responsibility as a teacher to facilitate students’ learning and to stimulate their interest in the subject matter.

I believe students should be given the opportunity to reach their full intellectual potential. One of my goals in teaching is to create this opportunity for them by challenging them through communicating high expectations, encouraging active learning, encouraging student-faculty contact as well as encouraging cooperation among students. These activities provide me a dynamic classroom where independent thinking is promoted and students are asked to demonstrate their ideas.

A diverse approach to teaching is possible by acknowledging that different teaching methods work for different people. It is important to keep in mind that some students prefer visual cues whereas others prefer vocal cues. That is why I try to use a variety of teaching methods to present the material. I also vary my teaching techniques in class. As well as traditional lecture, I like having discussion groups and working on case studies. I extensively utilize presentation software and all elements of multimedia such as videos, web sites and documents.
