Dr. BarNir's areas of specialization include strategic management and entrepreneurship. Her teaching areas and experience are in Business Strategy, Entrepreneurship, International Management and Electronic Commerce.

Dr. BarNir's research interests focus on competitive behavior and competitive positioning, strategic decision making, electronic commerce, and entrepreneurship. Specific research areas include the effects of managerial characteristics, firm structure, and social networks on intercompetitor and interfirm behavior; the relationship between the social context in which the decision maker operates and the decision s/he makes; and the relationship between managerial social capital and firm performance. Special interests are associated with small businesses and micro-enterprises, the motives of entrepreneurs, and the characteristics and determinants of successful entrepreneurial ventures. Another research stream focuses on the strategic implications of electronic commerce and on the Internet as a new competitive environment.
