Elections are quickly approaching. This cyclical political activism is something to think about. Whether one holds strong political views or not, the political process plays an essential role in business. It is something to be aware of year-round and not just during election season.
Congressman Michael Burgess, M.D. feels the same way. The UNT alumnus spoke to members of the Professional Leadership Program Oct. 24. His bi-partisan presentation addressed healthcare, prescription and regional economic development issues and was focused on putting a face on congressional representation and educating the students; not campaigning.
The "Legislative Update" program also included UNT political science professors Dr. Kimi King and Dr. Elizabeth Oldmixon.
Dr. King advocated that political knowledge is important not just to being a good citizen, but also a good business person regardless of the business field.
Dr. Oldmixon shared her personal experiences on Capitol Hill and provided advice on how to begin a career in politics.
This first-time event was well attended and sparked some excellent conversation. Be sure to watch for more of these events in the future.
