The College of Business and Murphy Enterprise Center held the sixth Annual Leadership Luncheon sponsored by the Jerry Durant Family of Dealerships on Friday, November 2, 2007 at the Hilton-Anatole Hotel in Dallas. Keynote speaker, Mr. Nolan Ryan, addressed over 700 individuals - sharing his times in professional baseball as well as his experiences as an entrepreneur. In addition, student scholarship winners and donors were recognized, and New Venture Contest winners were announced. PLP is proud to have three of those recognized students in it's membership.
David Rosenbaum, owner of North Texas Pyrotechnic Productions (NTPP) won first place in the New Venture Creation Contest. David was awarded $25,000 in seed money to grow his business that he co-owns with his father. NTPP specializes in affordable fireworks displays for weddings, corporate events, private parties, concerts and other occasions. The company is licenced and insured for residential and commercial displays costing between $1,000 and $10,000. Current customers include former professional football players and the Gaylord Texan Hotel. David is junior majoring in business economics.
Jason Hills, a junior majoring in business, was awarded a scholarship from the Matt Davis College Endowment Fund for the amount of $1,000. Matt Davis is an entrepreneurship major who graduated a few years ago from UNT.
Jason Levi, a graduate student in marketing and jazz studies, was awarded the Liz & Pete Gunter Scholarship totaling $1,000. Jason is also an entrepreneur who plans to enter and win the New Venture Contest next year.
