Distinguished Lecture Series Speaker Features Luminant Executive Vice President and Chief Nuclear Officer

The University of North Texas will host Mike Blevins, executive vice president and chief nuclear officer for Luminant, a subsidiary of Energy Future Holdings, as the College of Business Administration’s final Distinguished Lecturer of the year.

Blevins will deliver a talk titled “TEXAS ENERGY – A BRIGHT FUTURE” from 10-11:30 a.m. Nov. 7 (Friday) in the Golden Eagle Suite in the University Union, which is located at 1155 Union Circle. The college's Distinguished Lecture Series features three speakers each semester. Brigadier General Jesse R. Cross was the first speaker of the semester. The second speaker was Jon Daniels, general manager of the Texas Rangers.

Luminant, a subsidiary of Energy Future Holdings (EFH), formerly TXU Corp., is a competitive power generation business, which includes Luminant Power, Luminant Energy (formerly Wholesale), Luminant Mining, Luminant Construction and Luminant Development. Luminant has over 18,300 megawatts of generation in Texas, including 2,300 megawatts of nuclear and 5,800 megawatts of coal-fueled generation capacity. Luminant is also the largest purchaser of wind-generated electricity in Texas and fifth largest in the United States.

Blevins is responsible for directing operations at the Comanche Peak nuclear power plant in Glen Rose, Texas, representing Luminant with nuclear regulatory associations and providing strategic direction in the areas of nuclear security, engineering, regulation, quality assurance, nuclear fuel design and procurement, emergency prepardedness and community relations.

As a leader in the nuclear industry, Blevins is a member of the Nuclear Energy Institute (NEI) and the Institute of Nuclear Power Operations (INPO) executive advisory groups. He also is a member of the National Society of Professional Engineers, the American Nuclear Society, the American Association of Blacks in Energy and Women in Nuclear.
