Mentor & Mentee Pair Participate in Race for Wishes
by Teresa Rodriguez
PLP students and mentors participated in Make-A-Wish Foundation’s annual “Race For Wishes” event by volunteering and running on Saturday, March 26. This is the second consecutive year PLP has supported Make-A-Wish Foundation’s efforts to grant a “wish” to children with life-threatening medical conditions.
“Race For Wishes was an amazing experience I am glad to have been a part of. As a volunteer, assisting all the long lines of caring participants really brings hope,” senior Lyndsey Durnal said. Lyndsey and her mentor Bryan Milner volunteered at the registration tent together.
PLPers also volunteered by directing traffic, assisting in logistics, and passing out goody bags to “Wish Kids.”
“Make-A-Wish Foundation is such a fantastic organization. I loved seeing all the ‘Wish Kids’ come to our tent with their families to prepare for the race,” senior Levi Campbell said. “I’m already looking forward to next year.”
Victoria Baria and her mentor Paula Ramiez ran in the event’s 5k run together.
“The fact that we were running together with hundreds of other people for a great cause made it so much easier and fun,” Baria said. “I definitely plan on participating in more events like this.”
