Students in Free Enterprise UNT Chapter Going to National Competition
Congratulations to SIFE team members Stephanie Ezeugo, Alicia La Rosa, Aquavia Lagrone, Anya Zhang, and Derrick Wright for their win at the Regional SIFE competition. Their chapter sponsor, Sr. Lecturer Mike Sexton, put in an outstanding effort as their leader during the process of preparing for the competition, winning second place the first time they competed with 7 other universities at their level! Not only did they take second place, but they also received the Rookie of the Year award. Their second place win qualifies them to compete at the National Competition in Kansas City in May.
In order to compete, the team presented three projects that they tied together under the theme of helping children. Their project included working with the Domestic Violence Shelter in Denton, with a group going to Uganda whose mission is to provide solar lighting for schools and the SIFE team incorporated providing solar lighting for students to more easily do their homework, and “Let’s Can Hunger” sponsored by the Campbell’s Soup Company (SIFE was the only CoB team to participate in UNT’s “Can”struction that included gathering canned goods for those in need).
