Is an Internship required for the MBA/MS?

No. You are not required to take an internship. You may register (with permission) up to three hours of pass/no pass credit. The internship will not count towards your 36 hour degree. Read the policy below.

INTERNSHIP POLICY

(Approved by MPC April 1, 2008)

CoB’s MBA / MS students become eligible to take their discipline’s 5800 graduate internship course after completing at least one of the discipline’s required concentration courses (BS / MS 5-year accounting students do not have to wait) and meeting the requirements stated in the graduate catalog. Students may not take any 5800 course outside of their respective disciplines. Students must meet all departmental requirements and limitations.

  1. All 5800 courses are graded pass / no pass (P / NP), only.
  2. Students may take their 5800 course for 1, 2, or 3 semester credit hours (SCH) per term, subject to departmental approval.
  3. If allowed by their respective departments, students may apply a maximum of 3 SCHs of 5800 toward their master’s degree requirements.

Students who fail to maintain good academic standing, fail to meet Curricular Practical Training (CPT) requirements (if any), fail to maintain the minimum number of graduate credit hours, or fail to demonstrate satisfactory progress toward completion of the MBA / MS degree cannot enroll in any internship course.

Students enrolled only in a graduate academic certificate program, or students having graduate non-degree (GNDE) status are not eligible to enroll in any internship course. BS / MS accounting students having GNDE status may, however, enroll in a 5800 course.

The Associate Dean for Graduate Studies, with the approval of the Masters’ Program Committee, may grant a semester exception to this policy on a case-by-case basis.
