The financial services professional field is designed to prepare students for the financial services market at the individual level. Successful completion of the professional field qualifies students to register for the Certified Financial Planner (CFP)TM comprehensive examination.
Professional Field in Financial Services
The following courses are required for the professional field in Financial Services (no substitutions):
- FINA 4200*: Investments
- Any 4000 Level BLAW, FINA, REAL, or RMIN course
- RMIN 2500*: Principles of Risk and Insurance Management
- RMIN 4400*: Employee Benefit Programs
- RMIN 4500*: Estate Planning
Required Support Field Courses
- ACCT 4300*: Federal Income Taxation
- FINA 4400: Financial Markets and Institutions
- FINA 4500: International Finance
- REAL 4000: Real Estate Finance or REAL 4300: Real Estate Investments
Support Field Elective
Select one of the following:
- ACCT 4130: Financial Statement Analysis
- BLAW 4430: Legal Organizations and Financial Transactions
- FINA 4210: Special Topics in Investments
- RMIN 4200: Life Insurance
- RMIN 4300: Property and Liability Insurance
- REAL 4300: Real Estate Investments
- Or another course approved by the department
Note: Some courses may not be offered every semester. Consult with a departmental advisor regarding planned course offerings. Some courses may require prerequisites.

Internship
You may complete an internship for three hours of course credit, upon completion of 12 semester hours at UNT including six hours in your area of study.
