FIREL Internships
Several students have asked about internships working for a company. Typically, three hours of course credit are available for a qualifying intern program. These three hours can be used as one of your supporting professional field courses. Each major has a professor who supervises internships.

Risk Management Insurance Major Internship Information
For the RMIN majors, here are the most important guidelines you need to know:
- Students must work a total of 225 hours (an average of 15 hours per week for 15 weeks). Students can work any number of hours per week more than that, so an 8 or 10 week summer internship is just fine.
- Internship job responsibilities cannot be more than 50% sales.
- Students are responsible for completing ALL the paperwork that is required by the campus co-op office. This paperwork includes having both the student and the employer evaluate each other at the end of the internship.
- Students cannot get credit for PRIOR experience; however, credit can be given for working in your normal insurance-related job that student already has.
- Students must register, and pay for, the internship course. If internship AND the paperwork are not completed before grades are due that semester, an "Incomplete" will be given as the grade for that course. It will be removed once all of the internship requirements have been completed.
