Below you will find each departments scholarship descriptions, eligibility requirements and application requirements. Please read and familiarize yourself with the requirements below before applying for any scholarships.

Students should be aware that if they receive a scholarship they will be required to write thank you notes to the awarding donor.

Please note that scholarships are awarded for the next academic year or as specified by department.

COB General Scholarships

College of Business General Scholarships are competitively awarded by the College's General Scholarship Committee to Business Majors on the basis of academic excellence, merit, professionalism, and need. Amounts vary from year to year depending on contributions. Awards are available for undergraduate, masters, and doctoral students. To be eligible for a scholarship you must be a full-time student in the Fall 2012 semester. If you have a specific question about CoB General Scholarships, contact CoBScholarships@unt.edu.

The Lupe Murchison Foundation Graduate Fellowship

To be eligible for this fellowship, you,
Must be a full time COB graduate student during the fellowship.
Must not work more than 20 hours per week at a campus job (including TF, TA, RA) or in the College Work Study program.

The UNT Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma Honors Scholarship

Essay Requirement

Ethical Business Leadership involves leaders considering the moral implications of their decisions and promoting ethical behavior in organizational members. The strength of leaders’ commitment to ethical business behavior is a driving factor in achieving organizational goals while maintaining high ethical standards, and it is critical to the success of their businesses.
Applicants for the UNT Chapter of Beta Gamma Sigma Honors Scholarship must submit an essay discussing how ethical business leadership influences their family, education, job, business, and/or community.

Accounting Department Scholarships

Scholarships and excellence recognition awards are competitively awarded by the Department of Accounting Scholarship Committee to Accounting majors on the basis of academic excellence, merit and professionalism. To be eligible for a scholarship, you must be a full-time student in the semester when the scholarship payment is to be made. A full-time student is defined as an undergraduate student taking a minimum of 12 academic hours or a graduate student taking a minimum of 9 academic hours in the long semesters. The summer term for undergraduate counts as a semester only if you take 4 to 6 hours both semesters and for a graduate student, 6 hours both semesters.

IF YOUR APPLICATION DOES NOT INCLUDE THE FOLLOWING ITEMS, IT WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED.

  2. A double-spaced one-page typed sheet outlining your goals for the future and your areas of interest in the accounting profession. FIREL Department Scholarships

The Department of Finance, Insurance, Real Estate and Law offers a variety of competitive scholarships to students majoring in finance, financial services, risk management and insurance and real estate who have completed at least one or more semesters at UNT and have a good academic record. Award amounts vary based on available funding.

FIREL Scholarships are awarded for the academic year with funds disbursed in equal amounts during the fall and spring terms.

I. ELIGIBILITY
To be eligible to receive a scholarship, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements based on their classification.

  1. UNDERGRADUATE
    1. Be a full time student
    2. Have a major in either Finance, Financial Services, Risk Management and Insurance, or Real Estate (A degree plan should be on file with the college if you are majoring in one of these fields.)
    3. Have completed at least 24 credit hours at UNT
    4. Have taken and passed basic principles course in major field (FINA 3770, RMIN 2500, or REAL 2100)
    5. Have a minimum 2.7 cumulative GPA
  2. GRADUATE
    1. Be a full time student
    2. Have a major in either Finance or Real Estate (A degree plan should be on file with the college if you are majoring in one of these fields.)
    3. Have completed at least 12 credit hours at UNT
    4. Have completed 6 graduate credit hours (EXCLUDING DEFICIENCY CLASSES)
    5. Have a minimum cumulative 3.0 GPA

ITDS Department Scholarships

Scholarships and academic excellence recognition awards are competitively awarded by the ITDS Department Scholarship Committee on the basis of academic excellence, merit, professionalism, and need. Amounts vary from year to year depending on contributions. Historically, there have been more awards available for undergraduate students than for masters or doctoral students. Nevertheless, all qualifying students are encouraged to apply.

Who is eligible?

  • All BCIS, DSCI, DECT and INFT majors.
  • Juniors, seniors, or graduate students; although, some awards may be available for graduating Seniors as well.
  • BCIS majors must have completed BCIS 3620 or BCIS 3630 by end of previous Fall semester.

Management Department Scholarships

If you want to be considered for scholarships awarded by the Department of Management, please complete the following items:

  • 1. Select a scholarship of interest and make sure that all criteria are or will be met.
  • 2. Complete the Scholarship Application form at the bottom of this page.
  • 3. Submit a statement which describes your career goals, explains how the scholarship will help you achieve the goals, and provides any additional information related to the scholarship.
Note: Incomplete applications will not be processed. To maintain full-time status at UNT, an undergraduate (graduate) student must enroll for at least 12 (9) semester hours. Kindly e -mail (ching-chung.kuo@unt.edu) or call (940-565-4749) the Scholarship Committee Chair if you have any questions.

Department of Management Scholarship

Eligible undergraduate students must have completed 75 hours of college course work, with at least 15 hours completed at UNT. Applicants must also have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and agree to maintain full-time enrollment at UNT during the semester in which the scholarship is granted. Finally, applicants must have successfully completed all pre-business requirements and have an official degree plan for a professional field in Entrepreneurship, Organizational Behavior/Human Resource Management, or Operations and Supply Chain Management (formerly Operations Management Science). Eligible graduate students must have completed at least 9 hours toward an MBA degree with a major in Management at UNT, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and agree to maintain full-time enrollment during the semester in which the scholarship is granted.

Melanie Dutton Scholarship

The Melanie Dutton Scholarship is awarded to undergraduate or graduate students who (1) have an official degree plan for a professional field in Entrepreneurship, Organizational Behavior/Human Resource Management, or Operations and Supply Chain Management (formerly Operations Management Science); (2) maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in their degree program; (3) maintain a GPA of at least 2.7 (for undergraduates) or 3.0 (for graduates); and (4) speak a language other than English fluently. In addition to the general application, the applicant must submit a one-page essay explaining what his (her) second language is and the role it plays in conducting business.

Lorch Folz Memorial Scholarship

The Department of Management awards the Lorch Folz Memorial Scholarship to eligible undergraduate students majoring in the Operations and Supply Chain Management (formerly Operations Management Science) professional field in the Department of Management of the College of Business. Applicants must be full-time students and agree to maintain full-time enrollment at UNT during the semester in which the scholarship is granted. Eligible students have completed 60 semester hours, have a cumulative GPA of 3.00 or higher, and are permanent residents or citizens of the United States. Applicants must also express intent to enter the manufacturing industry, preferably in Texas but certainly in the United States. A student who is awarded the Lorch Folz Memorial Scholarship for the junior year is eligible to have the scholarship renewed for the senior year provided that s/he continues to meet the eligibility criteria.

ISM-Fort Worth Scholarship

The ISM-Fort Worth Scholarship is awarded to students who (1) meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Business in effect at the time of the award; (2) maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time in their degree program; (3) maintain a 3.0 GPA on a 4.0 scale; if there are no otherwise qualified applicants with a minimum of 3.0 GPA, qualified students with a GPA below 3.0 will be considered; and (4) enroll as a full-time student in Management majoring in Operations and Supply Chain Management at UNT; in the event no applicant possesses these characteristics, then students  enrolling full-time in the College of Business at UNT will be eligible for consideration. In addition, (5) the scholarship recipient is to be an in-state student, (6) the scholarship award shall be equally dispersed by UNT between two academic semesters to ensure that the recipient is continuing to meet the requirements of eligibility, and (7) preference will be given to students who meet the above characteristics and are active in extracurricular activities both internal and external to UNT.

C. L. Littlefield Memorial Scholarship

The Littlefield Business Management Scholarship is awarded to students who (1) meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management in effect at the time of any award; (2) maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in their degree program; (3) enroll as a full-time student in the Department of Management at UNT; and (4) preference should be given to graduate students for this award.

Management Advisory Board Scholarship

Eligible undergraduate students must have completed 75 hours of college course work, with at least 15 hours completed at UNT. Applicants must also have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher and agree to maintain full-time enrollment at UNT during the semester in which the scholarship is granted. Finally, applicants must have successfully completed all pre-business requirements and have an official degree plan for a professional field in Entrepreneurship, Organizational Behavior/Human Resource Management, or Operations and Supply Chain Management (formerly Operations Management Science). Eligible graduate students must have completed at least 9 hours toward an MBA degree with a major in Management at UNT, have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher, and agree to maintain full-time enrollment at UNT during the semester in which the scholarship is granted.

Morris D. and Evelyn B. Misso Scholarship

The Morris D. and Evelyn B. Misso Scholarship is awarded to students who (1) meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Business in effect at the time of the award; (2) maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in the degree program; (3) enroll as a full-time student majoring in the Department of Management at UNT; and (4) must be of sound moral character. [Note: Applicants from the College of Business meeting all requirements except (3) may still be considered.]

Maureen F. Moore Scholarship

The Maureen F. Moore Scholarship is awarded to students who (1) meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management in effect at the time of the award; (2) maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in their degree program; (3) maintain a 3.25 GPA or higher; (4) enroll, or intend to enroll, as a full-time student in Organizational Behavior/Human Resource Management at UNT; and (5) preference will be given to students demonstrating financial need. [Note: Applicants meeting only the requirement in (1) may still be considered.]

Emabeth Thompson Scholarship in Human Resource Management

The Emabeth Thompson Scholarship is awarded to students who (1) major in Organizational Behavior/Human Resource Management; (2) maintain a minimum GPA of 3.0 (for current students) or meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Business in effect at the time of the award (for prospective students); and (3) maintain full-time enrollment at UNT during the semester in which the scholarship monies are received unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program.

William D. and Marilyn B. Oates Scholarship

The William D. and Marilyn B. Oates Scholarship is awarded to students who (1) meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management in the College of Business in effect at the time of any award; (2) maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in their degree program; and (3) maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher.

Joseph O. & Betty A. Roy Business Scholarship

Eligible students must (1) meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management at the time of any award; (2) maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full time remaining in their degree program; and (3) enroll as a full-time student in the Department of Management at UNT to study management topic involving a significant international learning experience. [Note: Applicants from the College of Business enrolling as full-time students and meeting all requirements except (3) may still be considered.]

Jim McDonald Scholarship in Management in Memory of C. L. Littlefield

The Jim McDonald Scholarship in Management in Recognition of C. L. Littlefield is awarded to students who (1) meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management in effect at the time of any award; (2) maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in their degree program; and (3) enroll as a full-time student in one Department of Management professional field degree program at UNT. [Note: Applicants from the College of Business meeting all requirements except (3) may still be considered.]

Elvis and Joyce Stephens Scholarship

The Elvis and Joyce Stephens Scholarship is awarded to students who (1) meet the minimum entrance and continuing academic performance standards of the Department of Management in effect at the time of the award; (2) maintain full-time enrollment at UNT unless they have fewer than twice the number of semester hours required to be full-time remaining in their degree program; (3) enroll as a full-time student in the Department of Management at UNT with a major in Organizational Behavior/Human Resources Management or any other Management program; (4) demonstrate financial need; and (5) preference will be given to applicants who supply a statement certifying that they are the first in their family to attend college, i.e., their parents and siblings did not attend college.

Ken and Shirley Murphy Scholarship in Entrepreneurship

The Department of Management awards the Ken and Shirley Murphy Scholarship in Entrepreneurship to a student who must (1) meet the minimum entrance requirements and continuing academic performance standards of the College of Business in effect at the time of any award; (2) be enrolled in the College of Business as a full-time student with any major in the Department of  Management; (3) maintain an overall GPA of 2.0 or higher and a College of Business GPA of 2.5 or higher; (4) be of junior standing or higher; (5) express a particular interest in entrepreneurship and/or entrepreneurial studies (an essay of no more than 600 words is required); and (6) have exhibited entrepreneurial traits by meeting one of the three requirements below: (a) having successfully operated some form of part-time or full-time enterprise (a description of the business is required); (b) being currently employed for a minimum of 20 hours per week (a copy of your current resume is required) while carrying a minimum of 12 undergraduate (or 9 graduate) hours; and (c) having earned a minimum of 50% of college expenses during the prior summer (a copy of your 2008 W-4 form is required). All awards from the Ken and Shirley Murphy Scholarship in Entrepreneurship shall be full scholarships to individual students up to $5,000 depending upon current available funding.

Marketing & Logistics Scholarships

Graduate and Undergraduate Marketing & Logistics students are encouraged to apply!

Scholarships and excellence recognition awards are competitively awarded by a Scholarship Committee on the basis of academic excellence, merit, professionalism, and need.

I. ELIGIBILITY

To be qualified to receive a scholarship, the successful contender will have meet the following requirements based on guidelines established for their classification:

A. UNDERGRADUATE

  1. Must declare Marketing or Logistics as their major unless specific scholarship does not require this action. (A degree plan should already be in place with COB’s undergraduate advising office.)
  2. Must have successfully completed all pre-business requirements
  3. Be a full-time student in the semester when the scholarship payment is to be made. A full-time student is defined as a student taking a minimum of 12 academic hours.
  4. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  5. Must have completed at least 15 hours of college course work at UNT.

B. GRADUATE

  1. Must declare Marketing or Logistics as their major unless specific scholarship does not require this action (A degree plan must be on file with the college if you are majoring in one of these areas.)
  2. Be a full-time student in the semester when the scholarship payment is to be made.
  3. Have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.0
  4. Completed 6 graduate credit hours in MKTG and/or LSCM.

II. HOW DO I APPLY? Complete the online scholarship application linked below. (Note: Incomplete applications will not be considered.)

  1. A one-page letter of application including, but not limited to, career goals and how you are preparing for your chosen career.
  2. A complete typed resume including work experience, activities, and educational background including two (2) academic and two (2) non-academic references, including name and all relevant contact information. Do not submit letters with the initial application.
  3. OPTIONAL: A typed personal statement or statement of financial need.

III. SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS SHOULD UNDERSTAND THAT:

  1. Your actual course enrollment will be verified during the semesters you receive a scholarship. If you do not meet the above requirements throughout the semester, the scholarship may be revoked.
  2. Selected students are required to attend the Scholarship Recognition Awards program of the Department of Marketing and Logistics.

Graduate Scholarships

Summerfield G. Roberts Scholarship
The Graduate Programs Office offers nonrenewable, competitive scholarships for MBA and MS business students who are Texas residents and have a good academic record. Award amounts vary based on available funding.  Continuing MBA/MS students in the College of Business may apply. Awards will be granted the second week of each semester.
ELIGIBILITY

To be eligible to receive a scholarship, applicants must meet the following minimum requirements based on their classification. Non-degree seeking , Certificate-only, and Conditionally Admitted students are not eligible. 

  1. Be a Texas resident
  2. Have a minimum cumulative 3.6 master’s GPA
  3. Earned 500+ on GMAT
  4. Admitted without conditions or provisions
  5. Have completed all 50xx background courses
  6. Have completed at least 6 hours of COB 51xx courses at UNT
  7. Be enrolled in at least 6 hours of graduate courses at UNT the semester the award is granted
  8. Be in good academic standing
  9. Be accepted into the MBA or MS program

  1. Must declare Entrepreneurship as their major.  A degree plan must be on file with the college if you are majoring in one of these areas.
  2. Must be a full-time student in the semester when the scholarship payment is to be made.

  1. A one-page essay including, but not limited to, entrepreneurial career goals and how you are preparing for your career in entrepreneurship is required.  Please include any pertinent information with regards to entrepreneurial business experiences.

Center for Logistics Education and Research Scholarships

Logistics students are encouraged to apply!

Scholarships are competitively awarded by an industry Scholarship Committee on the basis of academic excellence, merit, professionalism, and need.
Eligibility
Undergraduate and Graduate Students

  1. Must declare Logistics as their major. A degree plan should already be in place with CoB’s undergraduate advising office.
  2. Both full-time and part-time students may apply, but must be enrolled for a minimum of 6 hours in the semester when the scholarship payment is to be made.
  3. Currently enrolled sophomore, junior, or seniors must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.75.  The student must maintain a 3.00 GPA for all courses taken following award of the scholarship.
  4. Scholarship funding is awarded only for classes in the logistics degree plan at the 3000-4000 level.
  5. Students must be at least one semester away from graduation.
  6. Students awarded scholarships agree to complete alumni surveys to track career progress.
  7. Students awarded scholarships must sign the Scholarship Acceptance Agreement and provide a copy of thank you letter to the scholarship donor.

  1. A complete set of transcripts showing all academic work to date, including transfer work.  (Attach files)
  2. A one-page letter of application including, but not limited to, career goals and how you are preparing for your chosen career in logistics.  (Attach file)
  3. A complete resume including work experience, activities, and educational background.  (Attach file)
  4. Names and contact information for three references.  (Attach file)

Important Notes:

  1. Your actual course enrollment will be verified during the semesters you receive a scholarship. If you do not meet the above requirements throughout the semester, the scholarship may be revoked.
  2. Payment authorization will be made only after course enrollment and eligibility requirements are verified by the Center on the 12th class day of the semester.  Scholarship winners are strongly encouraged to register early.
